Risk Automation Engineer
We're seeking a Risk Automation Engineer to implement the automation behind our risk oracles. Working at the offchain/onchain boundary, you'll build the Chainlink CRE workflows that compute risk values and write them onchain for the Aave Protocol.
About us
At LlamaRisk, we're making risk analysis in decentralized finance smarter, simpler, and radically more transparent. Our platform helps protocols, investors, and institutions understand and monitor complex financial systems—bridging traditional finance and DeFi with actionable insights and intuitive tools.
Founded in 2021, LlamaRisk is a remote-first company with a globally distributed team of engineers, researchers, and product thinkers. We're focused on building robust, data-driven frameworks that support better decisions in on-chain finance. Above all, we value clarity, security, and innovation grounded in real-world impact.
The Role
We're seeking a Risk Automation Engineer to implement the automation behind our risk oracles. As the risk service provider for the Aave Protocol, our LlamaGuard oracles are read directly by Aave's borrow and liquidation flows: risk-adjusted price feeds with bounding strategies (LlamaGuard NAV), PT collateral pricing, supply cap automation, interest rate model updates, and emergency circuit breakers on the roadmap. Most of this automation runs on the Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE): a workflow takes the inputs a methodology needs, computes a risk value offchain, and writes it onchain through the Chainlink forwarder.
This role lives at the offchain/onchain boundary. A wrong or silently degraded write propagates straight into a live protocol with billions at stake, so you'll turn a research methodology, its bounding strategy, and an onchain target into an implementation that is:
- Secure. Only the intended workflow can move the value, and the path that lets it is auditable.
- Reliable. A degraded input or a failed run never silently ships a bad value.
- Bounded. Even a wrong value can only move a feed as far as the methodology's band allows.
- Observable. Every bound engagement, skipped write, and degraded run is visible before a consumer notices.
- Transparent. An outside party can reconstruct what the implementation computed and why.
- Modular. The methodology, the bounding strategy, and the onchain target are separable pieces that change without rewriting the whole.
What you'll do
- Implement our risk oracle methodologies (risk-adjusted price feeds and their bounding strategies, PT collateral pricing, supply cap automation, interest rate model updates, and the next oracle types) as deterministic, reproducible offchain computations
- Build and operate the Chainlink CRE workflows that compute risk values and write them onchain via the forwarder
- Carry the workflow's onchain write path: payload encoding, forwarder-to-receiver auth, write confirmation, and the failure cases around it
- Make every feed transparent and verifiable, so an outside party can reconstruct what the implementation computed and why
- Design implementations to be safe to upgrade: explicit versioning, controlled rollout, clean rollback
- Build the safety checks around the write (sanity bounds, staleness, pause/fallback) and the monitoring that catches a degraded run before a consumer notices
- Work closely with our research, backend, and security engineers, and with Chainlink CRE engineers on the platform side
Let's connect if you have
- Engineering: 3-6+ years backend or systems engineering, strong TypeScript, HTTP API consumption and design, Docker, ability to write deterministic, reproducible computation with rigorous testing
- Ability to leverage AI tools for productivity
- Blockchain: Solid EVM understanding, comfort reading Solidity and reasoning about contract interfaces, events, and access controls
- Familiarity with onchain oracles and price feeds (Chainlink) and the forwarder/receiver write pattern
- Transaction finality, reorgs, and onchain write semantics
- Chainlink CRE: Building and operating CRE workflows is core day-to-day work. Prior hands-on CRE experience is a strong plus; without it, we expect you to get proficient quickly on the strength of the skills above.
- DeFi & Security: Understanding of Aave V3 and Aave V4, strong security mindset, comfort working at the offchain/onchain boundary where a bad value has real downstream cost
- Timezone: Americas / Europe / Africa / Middle East only. Willingness to work during EST core hours.
Nice to haves
- Fluency in writing and reading Go code
- Direct Chainlink CRE / Functions / Automation experience (strong plus)
- Oracle or risk-feed system development
- Open-source DeFi contributions
- Experience with emergency response systems or circuit breakers
- Numerical/fixed-point correctness experience (precision, rounding, integer encoding for onchain targets)
What we offer
- Competitive salary paid monthly in USD stablecoin
- A chance to help build critical infrastructure for the future of onchain finance
- Access to cutting-edge technologies and problems in DeFi and real-world assets
- Autonomy, flexibility, and real influence over how our risk oracles are built
- A lean, ambitious team focused on quality and long-term impact
- Remote-first, globally distributed team
